One of our guiding principles in developing the Rendezvous was to present the best the Northwest has to offer the world of bonsai, whether it is our fabulous instructors, unbeatable raw materials, or unbridled enthusiasm. We also want to present an exhibit of the Northwest’s very best bonsai, with an eye on where bonsai in North America is headed and what its vision is for the future.
We are inviting all Full Pass Rendezvous registrants to bring a display for the Rendezvous Bonsai Exhibit. Although we would love to have a very large display of all Northwest bonsai, due to space constraints the exhibit will feature just 19 formal 6’ displays. For this reason we must limit participation to the best of the best. Yet we would love to have one of your trees for our exhibit. If you would like to join us, you are encouraged to submit an application using the form provided below.
Each 6’ display will be bonsai focused, but the rest of the display is up to the exhibitor. Trees of all sizes are welcome; however each display needs to utilize the entire 6’ space. We definitely encourage thinking outside the box, as well as classic bonsai presentation. Each entry that is submitted will be reviewed by a committee of three well-known Portland bonsai practitioners; Lee Cheatle, Scott Elser, and Dennis Vojtilla. The committee will select the best, most unique and interesting display to be included in the Rendezvous exhibit.
Entries must be submitted by August 1st, 2018. If you have more than one tree you would like considered, please submit a separate form for each. Entries should include a clear front and side view photograph of the tree(s), plus any pertinent information for the display. Please use the provided digitally fillable form to apply (click here for Entry form). The form may be filled out on-screen, then saved to a file or printed and scanned. Send the form along with your photos to email@example.com (click here for email), no later than August 1st, 2018.
Owners whose trees have been selected will be notified via email by August 15, 2018. Trees will need to arrive at the Milwaukie Center between noon and 3:00 pm on Friday, September 14th. The exhibit will open Friday evening for the Vendor Reception at 6:00 pm. This event is free to full registrants and $25 otherwise. The Exhibit will be closing at 3:30 pm on Sunday afternoon, September 16th, and trees will be available for removal at that time. We look forward to your participation in the bonsai exhibit of the 2018 NW Bonsai Rendezvous.
