Michael Hagedorn

Michael Hagedorn apprenticed under Shinji Suzuki of Japan during 2003 through 2006, and has since crafted a life around bonsai. He established an urban studio in Portland, Oregon in 2008 where he creates, teaches, and writes about bonsai. His primary teaching outlet is the Portland-based Seasonal Program that fosters a broad and in-depth bonsai experience. Formerly a potter, Michael’s resume includes authoring the book Post-Dated: The Schooling of an Irreverent Bonsai Monk, founding the Portland Bonsai Village, and co-creating the Bonsai Fundamentals Course.  He is also the Bonsai Consultant for the world famous Portland Japanese Garden.

For the Rendezvous, Michael will be opening his garden for a tour on Friday morning, and will lead two workshops.  For his Saturday morning workshop Michael has chosen Shore Pines, and for Saturday afternoon he has chosen Mountain Hemlock.  Michael is back on Sunday for a critique of the Bonsai Exhibit early Sunday morning, then will join the other headliners on the stage for the Super Critique.
